Here's What To Ask When Choosing An Auto Repair Shop To Work With

Dealing with body damage is one of the most frustrating aspects of being a vehicle owner. If you don't get the damage repaired, it can result in serious rust problems and other issues as time goes on. So, finding a reliable auto body shop to work with is essential. Here are a couple of important questions to ask when choosing an auto body shop to work with:

What Certifications Have Been Earned?

There are several different types of certifications an auto body shop can earn. So, don't just assume that every certified auto shop you consider doing business with holds the same certifications. It's always a good idea to choose an auto body shop that has earned the I-Car Gold Class certification, which is considered to be the highest standard of training available in the industry.

This isn't the only certification to look for when choosing an auto body shop to take your car to. Here a few other certifications that a quality body shop may have:

  1. ASE Certification – Technicians must have a certain amount of work experience and meet other criteria to earn this standing.
  2. Vehicle Manufacturer Certifications – Many car manufacturers offer their own certification programs to ensure that technicians know exactly how to restore a damaged vehicle back to the condition it was in when it left the manufacturer's warehouse.
  3. AAA Approval – Being certified through the American Automobile Association means that the body shop meets high standards when it comes to things like customer service and pricing.

Ask any auto body shop that you consider hiring for a list of certifications that they hold so you can research the certifications and determine what to expect from the services you'll be provided with.

Is Alternative Transport Available?

If your car will have to be at the body shop for more than a day, you may need alternate transportation so you can travel to work and take care of your other responsibilities. You can always rent a vehicle, but your auto body shop may very well offer one or more transport options to take advantage of. The shop might offer shuttle service that will take you to and from work until your car is repaired.

Or they might have a vehicle loan system in place that gives you access to the use of a car until yours is ready to take back home again. If no loan or shuttle program is offered, the shop might have a partnership with a rental company and could score you a discount on your car rental.

Look around for a shop near you that offers certified repairs.
